Hello volunteers!

Andrea Warkentin needs one more helper for this Friday's REFLECTIONS
workshop from 2:45 - 3:20 p.m. (Location: Ann Scanniello's classroom #
113.)

Here's Andrea's email:

Honestly, it's not hard-just keep the kids safe and be available to think
with them about their entries. I suspect most of the questions will be
about filling out the entry form this week, but I may be wrong. This is the
last workshop before next week's Reflections deadline.

During the workshops, the kids can work on their Reflections entries and ask
questions of each other or the adults in the room. Approximately 15 kids
attended each of the previous workshops. We will not be offering
photography instruction during this last workshop, so the main topics adults
might be consulted upon would be art, literature, and music. (We haven't had
any music questions so far).

Adult helpers can organize brainstorming sessions, give technical advice ("A
Cheerios sculpture is not two-dimensional art. You can keep the same idea if
you made it two-dimensional by scanning some Cheerios and using those images
instead of real Cheerios." ... "No, I don't know anything that rhymes with
purple. Have you considered re-wording the line so the final word is easier
to rhyme?"), and help them read and interpret the rules. Adult helpers can
not intrude on the creative process, especially generating the final ideas
that the kids work from. The kids are having a bit of trouble with the
theme, so talking about heroism and differences is fine.

I have two wonderful helpers lined up. Last week, I had two helpers with me
(a total of three people), but one became ill and had to leave. This week, I
will be out of town for this workshop, and if one of the two helpers had a
crisis, the remaining person would face the group alone. I hate to do that
to someone, and that's why I'm asking for one more helper.

There will be copies of the rules and entry forms at the workshops. The
other helpers are well-versed in Reflections--Holly Prather has helped for
years at Deep Wood and is co-chair at CTMS, and Kathleen Hornyak is Deep
Wood's former chairperson-so don't let a lack of expertise in Reflections
trivia hold you back. My daughter and the daughter of another helper, Kay
Habermehl, used the workshop time to work on their own entries while we moms
helped other kids.

If you are able to help, please contact one of the following people as soon
as you can:

Holly Prather

Kathleen Hornyak

Thanks everyone!
